Check the Finished Stone Before Shipment
A pre-shipment inspection compares the finished stone with the order specification, material reference, drawings and packing list before loading.
The main checks cover material, quantity, dimensions, finish, fabrication details, identification and packing.
Use the Same References as the Order
The finished stone should be checked against the information used to place and produce the order.
Confirm the Stone and Its Visual Range
Natural Stone
Granite and marble should match the agreed material reference and expected color or vein range.
- Material name or reference
- Background color
- Veining or mineral movement
- Overall slab or piece appearance
Engineered Quartz
Quartz should match the specified product reference, background tone and pattern appearance.
- Product code
- Color reference
- Pattern or vein direction
- Batch appearance where relevant
Natural variation in granite and marble is normal. The key point is whether the finished material remains within the agreed appearance range.
Check Quantity, Size and Fabrication
Quantity
Confirm the total number of pieces and any special or spare items.
Dimensions
Check finished length, width, thickness and special shapes against the order.
Fabrication
Check cutouts, holes, edges and other machined details where required.
Inspect Visible Faces, Edges and Corners
Visible surfaces should be checked before they are covered by protective material or packed into crates.
Surface Finish
Compare polished, honed or textured surfaces with the specified finish.
Edges & Corners
Check profiles, exposed edges and corners for the required finished condition.
Cutouts & Machining
Check visible machining around openings, holes and shaped areas.
- Unexpected chips on visible areas
- Finish differences between matching pieces
- Incorrect edge profiles
- Cutouts that differ from the required shape
- Visible repair areas that need attention
Separate Natural Variation from Quality Problems
Granite
Background tone and mineral density can vary between pieces. The finished material should be compared with the agreed range rather than expected to look identical.
Marble
Vein position, density and movement vary naturally. Large visible pieces are easier to assess when viewed together.
Match the Finished Pieces to the Shipment
Packing should protect the finished stone and make the shipment easy to identify after arrival.
Record Findings by Item and Photo
A simple inspection record helps connect each finding to the affected product or piece.
| Item | Requirement | Result | Photo Ref | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Material | Agreed stone or product reference | OK / Issue | Photo number | Accept / Review |
| Dimensions | Required finished size | OK / Issue | Photo number | Accept / Rework |
| Finish | Specified surface and edge | OK / Issue | Photo number | Accept / Rework |
| Packing | Correct marks and protection | OK / Issue | Photo number | Accept / Repack |
Resolve Any Recorded Issues Before Loading
Pieces that do not match the order should be identified before shipment so they can be corrected, replaced or confirmed as appropriate.
Prepare the Order Details Before Final Packing
Include the material reference, dimensions, finish, quantity and special fabrication details.
