There are many granite processing methods and types, but there are a set of unique methods for granite processing methods. Here is a summary of all processing methods in granite stone processing as below.
Although granite are widely used and have a wide range of products in our daily life. There are many types of products about granite, such as paving stones, cut-to-size tiles, cube, countertop, windowsills, stairs, cobble stone, arc plates, corners, lines and so on. The way of processing method of granite is not complicated, the basic processing methods we have: sawn cutting, grinding and polishing, cutting, chiseling, flaming and inspection and repair.
1. Sawing processing
Sawing processing is to use a stone sawing machine to cut granite blocks into rough slabs (generally 20mm, 30mm or 10mm in thickness), or semi-finished products in the shape of strips or blocks. This way of a rough machining process and the quality of blocks, which has a big impact on the final rate of blocks, and this is the factor to having the good benefits for a company. The main processing equipment in the sawing process is a gang saw and wire saw cutting machine, diamond cutting machine, CNC cutting machine etc.
2. Grinding and polishing
The purpose of grinding and polishing is to further process the sawn rough slab to make its thickness, flatness and polished degree meet the requirements. This is first steps of process requires rough grinding and leveling, and then gradually undergoes semi-fine grinding, fine grinding, fine grinding and polishing to fully display the color and texture of the granite. The main processing equipment is: active multi-head continuous polishing grinder, diamond leveling machine, bridge grinder, disc grinder, reverse rough grinder, hand grinder.
3. Cut-to-size processing
Cutting process is to use a bridge cutting machine to cut the rough slabs or polished slabs according to the required specifications and dimensions. The primary processing equipment is a longitudinal multi-saw blade cutter, a transverse cutter, a infrared bridge cutter, a cantilever cutter, a hand cutter, etc.
4. Chiseling and processing
Chiseling is a traditional processing method. After chiseling, chopping, trimming, polishing and other methods, the rough slabs is processed into the requirement product. Its surface can be pineapple, chiseled, bush-hammered, natural split, and mushrooms stone finish and so on. Chiseling mainly use manual processing, such as hammers, axes, chisel, etc. However, some processing processes can be completed by machining. The main equipment is stone splitting machine, stone bush-hammered machine, automatic hammer chisel machine, and automatic sandblasted machine and so on.
5. Flaming processing
Flaming processing is also called fire processing or thermal processing. It uses the difference in thermal expansion coefficients of different mineral particles that make up granite. Flame spraying makes some particles on the surface expand and break off, forming undulating rough surface textures. . This rough-faced granite slabs is very suitable for floor decoration in wet and slippery places and outdoor wall decoration. The primary equipment is the granite flaming machine.
6. Auxiliary processing
Auxiliary processing is to chamfer, drill holes, sink cut out, anchor holes cutting, polished edges etc. of the cut and polished stone as required. The main processing equipment includes active edge grinding and chamfering machine, profiling machine, drilling machine, hand polishing machine and so on.
7. Inspection and repair
Natural granite inevitably has flaws such as cracks and holes, and it is inevitable that there will be some small defects in the processing process. Therefore, all granite products need to be inspected after the processing is completed. They must be cleaned and then fully dried for inspection. Then the qualified products will be packed and put into storage, and the unqualified products should be picked out first. In the case of meeting the requirements of the order, some granite products with minor defects can be repaired, like laminating and repairing can be carried out to reduce the wastage rate. Inspection and repair are usually manual operations, but some advanced processing and production lines will use active continuous blowing and repairing air dryers.
The above is all the processing methods of granite from blocks to finished products.
